Lyrics
Verse 4
Peace, all our angry passions, then;
Verse 2
The dear delights we here enjoy,
Verse 5
If smiling Mercy crown our lives,
Verse 3
'Tis God that lifts our comforts high,
Verse 1
Naked as from the earth we came,
Verse 3
Or sinks them in the grave;
Verse 4
Let each rebellious sigh
Verse 5
Its praises shall be spread,
Verse 2
And fondly call our own,
Verse 1
And crept to life at first,
Verse 3
He gives, and, blessed be his name!
Verse 1
We to the earth return again,
Verse 2
Are but short favors borrowed now,
Verse 4
Be silent at his sovereign will,
Verse 5
And we'll enjoy the Justice too
Verse 4
And ev'ry murmur die.
Verse 2
To be repaid anon.
Verse 1
And mingle with our dust.
Verse 3
He takes but what he gave.
Verse 5
That strikes our comforts dead.
