Lyrics

Verse 1

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;

Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.

Thou my best thought, by day or by night.

Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Verse 2

Be Thou my wisdom and thou my true word;

I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord.

Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;

Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Verse 3

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;

Be Thou my whole Armour, be Thou my might;

Thou my soul's Shelter, Thou my high Tow'r;

Raise Thou me heav'nward, O Pow'r of my pow'r.

Verse 4

Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise,

Thou my inheritance, now and always;

Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,

High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art.

Verse 5

High King of heaven, my victory won,

May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven's Sun!

Heart of my heart, whatever befall,

Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Scriptural Foundations

Preference: NASB 2020
  • 23This is what the Lord says: “Let no wise man boast of his wisdom, nor let the mighty man boast of his might, nor a rich man boast of his riches; 24but let the one who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises mercy, justice, and righteousness on the earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord.

  • 18I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

  • 16in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

  • Jesus Is the Light of the World

    12Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

  • 9For the fountain of life is with You;

    In Your light we see light.
